What you say is true...but times have changed. Japan had realized that India and Pakistan are not the same, and that China is a threat!

Relationship with Japan is dependent on relationship with US.
Thats because Japan is a very close ally of US. Japan is almost yet another state of US. Thats how close the US-Japan ties are.
So Japan can never ever go against US. India needs to be wise here.
要与日本搞好关系，就得先和美国搞好关系，因为日本是美国的亲密盟友。日本几乎是美国的一个州，从中可以看出美日关系多么亲密。
所以，日本永远不会对抗美国的，印度在这点上必须明智。

Both India and Japan are now led by strong nationalistic leaders. We must cooperate with each other and further strengthen our ties with Japan and benefit from its technology in all areas and take their help in improving our infrastructure. The outgoing UPA's foreign policy was weak just as its leadership and hence India did not get the respect it deserved.
